San Diego city leaders will unveil Monday a new 62-unit apartment complex in East Village for the homeless.
The six-story building will have several common areas and a community kitchen.
Residents will also have access to social services and substance abuse counseling.
The Cypress complex was developed by Affirmed Housing and financed by the San Diego Housing Commission and its partners.
The grand opening comes as the San Diego city council holds a special hearing to address possible solutions to the high cost of housing in San Diego.
Council members will go over several items that could spur affordable housing in San Diego.
The council will also consider Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s initiative to help increase housing development for low and middle income San Diegans.

Among the ideas are changing municipal codes to construct secondary units, and speeding up the permit process for new projects.
The special council meeting is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
