Opie the Dog the Only Animal Left at El Cajon's Shelter

On Saturday, hundreds of dogs in San Diego County found new homes as part of NBC’s Clear the Shelters initiative.

The El Cajon Animal Shelter nearly cleared its shelter, except for one 8-year-old dachshund-chihuahua mix.

Opie, a playful and spry pup, is the only animal left there.

Why? “We had a Clear the Shelters event last Saturday, and for some inexplicable reason, I didn't get adopted,” reads the adorable dog’s online bio. “I'm really a great dog, so please come get to know me at the El Cajon Animal Shelter so we can start our new life together. Love, Opie."

Opie's bio says he's best in a home with no children and no other dogs.

Since Opie is classified as a “super senior,” his adoption fee is only $30.

So what do we say, San Diego? Shall we find Opie a home?

The El Cajon Animal Shelter is at 1275 N. Marshall Ave. Or you can call 619-441-1580.
